Recently Pope Francis remarked, “Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Jehovah, Allah. These are all names employed to describe an entity that is distinctly the same across the world. For centuries, blood has been needlessly shed because of the desire to segregate our faiths.”
All throughout history we have accounts of religion being the front of strife and discord among nations. It is the failure of mankind to understand there is a basic fundamental belief we all share. The very idea of the “society Ego” of religion influencing timid minds where ‘this or that” is the “righteous way,” and the “only way to salvation,” becomes the real “demon”plaguing the world with conflict and domination.
In the Illusion of Self attention was drawn to this group or society Ego. There we addressed the issue:
“At the time of this writing, the world is witnessing the effects of the “society or group ego” seemingly out of control with frenzied and violent objectives. It has infected several parts of the globe with its egoic fanaticism. We find…where tens of thousands have lost their lives due to this “egoic righteousness.” Despite centuries of conflict, lessons of revenge were never learned. The group ego rises repeatedly devouring what rational tranquility that could be had. When we find innocent people subjected to the brutality of beheading, crucifixion, burning, rape and torture it is soul wrenching as to the “why!” All for a cause, a belief; of what is “right?” Where is the humanity? “ (Illusion of Self, Chapter 5)
Where do we find the solution to reform the mind of society to recoup the lost humanity? Perhaps Pope Francis’ comments are only a beginning to bring about an awareness of spirit and the illumination of reality.
